Maturity – Midlife crisis, or time for change
What is a midlife crisis really? Who does it affect most often? When we hear this term, we usually imagine a slightly graying man buying a Porsche, leaving his wife and children for a long-legged blonde 20 years younger.
This is a topic that is often downplayed, and the term often has a very pejorative connotation, aimed at ridiculing the childish behavior of a mature person.
From an astrological point of view, however, it is a very important, if not the most important, moment in life.
Since every birth chart is completely different, each of us experiences different transits at different times, but there are certain cycles that each of us will go through at a similar age. The most important of these cycles occur at the age of 21 (Uranus square to its natal position), 28-29 years (the famous return of Saturn, which I wrote about here) and the period of midlife crisis, roughly between the ages of 37 and 45. What makes this period unique is the number of planetary cycles that follow one after another. It seems that each planet has decided to add its two cents! It should be added here that each of these planets symbolizes a totally different energy and goals, so it is no wonder that this is the age when I most often meet new clients who are totally confused or lost;
Entrepreneurial Ms. Agnieszka, who had managed on her own her entire life, suddenly lost her direction, quit her career, and was unable to find her place in everyday life.
(the solution was to learn to let go and give up control; she also found comfort in spiritual practices and later in a completely new career direction, which we sought for her together during a classic session) Mr. Zbigniew, whose wife suddenly announces that she is leaving him for her lover in Spain, leaving him with their 3-year-old twins. (Yes, she was also going through a midlife crisis, more on that story a little later).
Mrs. Krysia, who suddenly began suffering from anxiety and depression for no apparent reason
(Astrocoaching & therapy sessions helped, where we also worked with hypnotic regression and difficult birth chart configurations)
Ms. Milena, who has never worked in her life, suddenly starts her own business, which is a huge success
(we set the dates for starting the business together based on her election horoscope).
There are many more examples and stories, each one different, but they all seem to have a common denominator: an irresistible desire for change, a feeling that this is the last moment, that there is something more, something that pushes us towards the unknown, forcing us to leave the safe haven, the status quo that we have so carefully built during the first part of our lives.
An interesting example among celebrities is Brad Pitt leaving Jennifer Aniston for Angelina Jolie during his own midlife crisis, only to be abandoned by Angelina many years later during her own crisis.
So does this period have to be difficult?
Why are we punished by these “terrible” cycles?
What can we do to better prepare ourselves for what is to come?
As always, how this period unfolds depends on our individual settings in our birth chart. All transits and cycles to our birth places are not meant to punish us or complicate our lives, but rather to highlight and sensitize us to certain elements that we have not paid enough attention to. If our married life is very successful, it is unlikely that something bad will happen in our relationship during such a crisis. If we are fulfilled professionally, we are unlikely to suddenly lose our job. In fact, the changes that happen to us during this period give us the opportunity to remind ourselves who we really are, to discover new or completely forgotten potential within us. All negative events or stress we experience are more like signals that prompt us to look deep inside ourselves and find something we have overlooked in the thicket of everyday responsibilities.
When we understand that the changes we desire really concern ourselves, we will not have to seek fulfillment in the arms of a 20-year-old Latino or turn our lives upside down. Here is a brief description of the planetary energies we experience during the KWS:
• Neptune cycles, which cause us to sometimes indulge in grand illusions and dreams, and when we are not thinking clearly, we can be enchanted or deceived, making decisions that we will later regret.
• Saturn cycles, which bring the consequences of our actions and a collision with reality, but also a feeling of being limited by someone or something
• Pluto cycles, causing profound transformations, fear of death, and a feeling of compulsion
• Jupiter cycles fill us with enormous optimism but also exaggerate other energies,
• Uranus encourages risk-taking and liberation from all obligations, destruction of structures and general rebellion
Quite a mix, isn’t it?
Just when we think we’ve gotten used to one energy, another one comes along and makes us consider visiting a psychiatrist (or at least an astrologer).
I can do the most for people who come to me before the KWŚ period itself.
I can then look for potential weak points during this period and find the most beneficial directions for this energy. I can present the individual stages and some solutions.
When someone comes during the period (which is most often the case, because only a small percentage of people visit an astrologer when things are going well), I work with what has already happened and prepare the client for the next stages, which will undoubtedly follow.
KWŚ is a process that can be compared to an unexpected parachute jump in the middle of the night, not knowing where we will actually land or even if our equipment will work.
It will be exciting and interesting, but also scary, and sometimes it will be worth praying. On the other hand, if something has always prevented you from spreading your wings and being truly yourse
lf, then maybe this is the moment you have been waiting for your whole life. If you are truly fulfilled in life on all levels, you may not experience many changes during this period, you may simply find new hobbies or interests. However, most of us do not have a perfect life and often feel a longing, whether conscious or not. During this period, we are usually the ones who take certain actions, but it also happens that our situation changes due to actions taken by others (as in the case of Mr. Zbigniew, who was left by his wife).
On the surface, we did not contribute to this, but very often our partners project our unconscious traits, feelings, and motives onto us. In a birth chart, this is often represented by the aspect of opposition. For such people, it is often only through contact with another person that we can confront our second nature, our alter ego, so to speak.
Mr. Zbigniew, for example, has an opposition between Venus in Cancer and Jupiter in Capricorn in his birth chart. He always had a tendency to focus on his Jupiter, spending most of his life on his professional ambitions. When his partner left him with their children, he initially planned to hire nannies, but I advised him to try to delegate some of his responsibilities at work and focus more on raising his children. At first, he was reluctant, but he promised to try. It turned out that he found incredible pleasure in devoting himself to family life, discovered a passion for cooking, and established a connection with his children that he had never had before.
It requires a lot of flexibility, but he manages to balance his professional and family life, and he admits that he feels like he has been reborn. “I always thought that as a man, I should focus mainly on providing for our family, while my wife would take care of the children and the home. No matter how far I got, I was never completely satisfied, so I set more ambitious goals for myself. When my wife left me and I took care of the house and raising the children on my own, it was difficult at first, but over time I felt much more relaxed and more like myself,” my client admitted. Venus in the horoscope always indicates what gives us pleasure, what we like to do in our free time. As it is a feminine element, in men it often indicates the type of woman they are attracted to.
Venus in Cancer is focused on maintaining the warmth of the home and traditional values. When his wife left Mr. Zbigniew, he discovered this feminine element in himself for the first time, which made him feel more fulfilled and happy. Each of us has both feminine and masculine elements in our horoscope, and the mutual integration of these elements in our psyche is very beneficial for maintaining balance in life. Unfortunately, our culture does not fully support this. If Mr. Zbigniew had worked earlier in his life on integrating these energies, would his wife still be with him? We will never know, but as they say, better late than never…
